INTERACTIVE LANGUAGE PROGRAM
The purpose of these developed Language technology is to increase awareness and supplement lost or endangered languages. In the event that a language is lost, through interactive media the user is enabled to rediscover what was once considered impossible, possible. This is by no means a perfect way to teach a lost language but it is my way of using a new language (JAVA & AS3) to convey an endangered language.
I begin developing this interactive language program in Flash programming (project Talking Basket) as part of the many tools to help revitalize one of California-Native Languages "Nisenan". This specific program was developed for the Nisenan language of Northern California with the assistance of digitize audio taken from wax cylinders from early Linguist surveys.
The image above features a simplified attempt to access the certain sound file. Once the play button is activated the english word is introduced (english optional) followed by the Native word which is repeated 3 times. The user is capable of repeating as often as the user likes.
The image above features two language options. The implemented language (Nisenan) have been recorded by early Linguist and can be implemented to assist written language development , the other option is also a phonetic approach. Once again english is optional.
Each menu consist of 4-6 words with a quick animation of the desired word or paraphrase.
This type of programming can be adapted to any language and design to be accessed by using any web browser.
